Welcome to the Aikenite

   Aiken, South Carolina.  There's no other place quite like it.  In 1999 members of the Aiken Year 2000 Committee published a book, "Aiken...The Place That I Call Home."  The pictorial features the photography of Ginny Southworth and is written by Thomas Smith.  In his introduction Smith writes:

                           ...the place we call home takes on a quality that no other place in the world can match.  That is what inspired this book.  That certain something that makes Aiken what it is.  ...That is what we've captured here.  A sense of that elusive something that makes Aiken unique.

        I couldn't have said it better, so I won't!  But, I will invite you to join me at the Aikenite as we explore the past, the people, and the places that make the place I live, a place to love. 

     So, whether born and bred, transplanted like myself, or visitor....Welcome!
